Show & Tell

So I talked to Reggie about my ideas and he was most excited about a button or "gun" type thing that would zap all the annoying girls who try to request uncool songs while he is DJing. Instead of them dying though, they would turn into confetti, so it would add to the party atmosphere.

He mentioned a "DJ Insurance Card" because alot of his stuff breaks and he cant always afford to fix it, so if there was a card that gave DJs special privileges and access to repair men. It would be like a VIP card to the DJ repair man.

He also mentioned having an "extra hand" would be nice and an "imind." This would be a device that allows him to dream/visualize/create in his mind projects and music, then they would materialize.

I think I am going to go with an advertisement for the DJ REPAIR CENTER. The package will be for a piece of jewelry. The jewelry is fly and is the business card for the company because it is underground and a secret DJ society. The necklace is like a Dog Tag. so all DJs unite and can help each other in times of need and help inspired each other and compete. The package will be box like and secret.

It will be given away in the mail. If you are a DJ you will receive a package in the mail with your DJ REPAIR CENTER necklace/ jewelry that willl allow you access to the world of DJs.

This necklace is usefull becuase it allows DJs to get special access to repairs and equipment discounts. It also connects DJs all over the world through this piece of jewelry. a secret society.

The competition for the DJ REAPIR CENTER is other repair centers and DJ databases. There arent any well known though that come to mind, so it would probably be local electronic and music stores. BEst buy maybe?

This piece should communicate style. It should be unique, hip, and classy. It should be the classic, retro DJ look and style. It should be shiney but not too in your face becuase all DJs have to wear it.

Packaging Inspiration

This reminds me of Reggie. bright colors, retro, music, and fun
This type of typography could be utilized in my packaging.
I could see this on the cover of a record or a flyer for a DJ party.
I like how they dressed up the classic "brown bag" they made it classy.
I like the bright colors and size variation. It is hip.
This is clever.
I could see a packaging for Reggie with different facial expression or icons having to do with music.

Project 02

Poster Examples:

1. Alteration, Exaggeration, or Combination

2. Simile, Metaphor, Analogy or Pun

Breif:

1. organization name: KU Rock Climbing Club

2. mission statement: To practice safe, fun, rock-climbing and to meet great new friends while enjoying life outdoors.

3. details: KURC meets monday and thursday nights at the climbing wall in the Rec Center at 8:30 pm. Meetings are a time for club members to learn new techniques and skills. Rock climbing is not only a great way to get into shape, but it is also a place to socialize and create friendships. It is simple to join. All you have to do is show up to the first meeting and pay either $40 for indoor climbing or $70 to go on trips outdoors including spring break to Las Vegas and Utah. No prior knowledge or skills are required, only a strong interest and will.

4. Who is the audience?

Persona o1: seasoned KURC member: adventurous, outdoorsy, rowdy, loud, intense, strong mentally and physically, brave, friendly, up for a challenge, serious, skilled, poetic, smooth, wears jeans, brings own climbing gear, knows the names of the gear

Persona o2: perspective KURC member: shy, new, unskilled, frustrated, confused, happy, friendly, weak, nervous, afraid of heights, not particularly adventurous, wears work out gear, rents gear, doesn't know how to belay

5. Where do you find these people? KURC members are from all over the KU spectrum. There are a lot of science majors, a few art (2-3), business, engineering, everywhere! A good location would be the Rec center because these people like to get physical! Also maybe the tennis courts, swimming pool, student athletes hang out spots, dorms, faculty offices, bulletin boards.

I was a new member at the beginning of the semester so i want to create a poster that will really appeal to perspective KURC members. I want it to be less intimidating and friendly. The group IS REALLY open so the poster should reflect that and emphasis that you need NO prior knowledge.

The next poster will be more intense and appeal to the current members and people who have more experience. This poster will appeal to them and make them want to join the club because the members are serious about climbing and are there to improve, while teaching and having fun.

Poster Revisions

Latest revision. does it feel balanced?

Do you see anything that is standing out and making the composition feel awkward? Something is not right.

This is the direction I want to go in with my posters. They need a lot of revision and tweaking to make all of the information organizined with a clear hierarchy. Any ideas suggestions?

I like it on a white background. I just need to work on organization and implying the shape of the droplet, which is an important part of my logo that may go unnoticed. I want to highlight the droplet shape as well as the scientific (molecule) side of my design.
This is the layout on a dark background. Less cool, but maybe easier to understand.

Brainstorming: Reading 01

"An ounce of action is worth a ton of theory." Friedrich Engles

I think I am more of a clustering/webbing/mapping person when it comes to brainstorming. Once I have completed that though cubing could come in handy to gain new perspectives and insight into my flourished or dead end branches. Heuristics is a big word for asking yourself, "who, what, when, where, why, and how." These are important questions to ask in a general sense, so should be completed at the beginning of a brainstorm session.

The first topic from the six perspectives is describing. It asks you to physically describe your topic. In regards to project number one, should we describe how the logo looks now or how it should look after we design it?

Does the location of your brainstorming session make a difference? I'm sure it would make the difference if you are at a loud basketball game doing your homework compared to being in the library, but maybe being outside in nature could spark your imagination or in the actual KU Biodiesel Lab if it is possible. Just a though.

I connect with the tip to Use toys, gadgets, photography, and other items to stimulate creative thoughts and ideas. I tend to decorate my room with random family heirlooms and nick nacks. My friend commented on it saying I have so much "stuff" everywhere. I was a bit offended by his tone of voice, but realized I put those things up to keep my thinking and as inspiration. I have posters on my walls that I find myself constantly decoding the visual strategy of. It is a tool to have those things surrounding me.

KU Biodiesel Initiative

KU Biodiesel Website

The KU Biodiesel Initiative is a grassroots, student-run operation to produce biodiesel from used cooking oil generated on campus. It is our goal to meet the requirements of all KU's buses, landscaping and maintenance equipment, and power generators on campus with this renewable fuel.

With the
Alternative Energy Society student group, we work to promote knowledge of sustainability and alternative fuel sources such as biodiesel to the student body and community

Questions:
Is there any way to make this product available to the public? So that the public can also use alternative fuel sources?

Is it more costly to use biodiesel rather than regular fuel? Is it more time consuming?

Observations:

Biodiesel improves air quality; it's renewable and it's creating green-collar jobs in our communities. The NBB is committed to keeping biodiesel on the cutting-edge of sustainability.

Biodiesel uses only the oil in the soybean and leaves the protein for livestock and human consumption.

The comprehensive body of biodiesel data serves to demonstrate the significant benefits of biodiesel to the environment and to public health. This will lead to increased consumer confidence and increased use of biodiesel. Since the majority of biodiesel is made from soybean oil, a promising new market is materializing for soybeans.

Ideas:
Clean. Homegrown. Renewable.
